I write this to you, sat enveloped in my panda covered bedsheets, knowing I haven't given my left leg a good bend in weeks! Let's head back to the 3rd week of January; I'm heading out on a mid morning dog walk, a list on my mind full of chores I need to do on my day off. I kneel down to simply pick up my dogs tiny turds and BAM. Snapping sound ensues. I've dislocated my left knee, broken a piece off from the kneecap and almost completely torn my medial collateral ligament. Ohh yeah. My phone pinned underneath me and my dog circling me with indignant barks of "WTF IS MY HUMAN DOING" - I'm left with the only choice to scream for help probably about a two minute walk from my front door. Cue hospital, x-rays, MRI appointments, fracture clinics and many, many phone calls of chasing my physiotherapy referral... I'm here in the middle of my nine weeks off work, wondering what the heck I'm doing with my life. It's really not all doom and gloom though. I'm twenty chapters in to a much needed rewrite for my first novel, Beneath the Door - after much deliberation and personal angst of "will I ever get a damn book written and published already?!" I've been working on some short story projects and even poems that have been submitted for certain things. I've even looked at my social medias to try and figure out how this networking stuff works! I guess the theme for this month's blog is finding ways to make the best of a shot situation. Pretty cliché, but hey, whatever works. See you next month, writers! HJ x
