I get to watch my first guinea pig castration in theatre. Guinea pigs are notoriously good at dying under anaesthesia, so RVN Mark is assisting the surgeon while I watch. He's telling me about a GP castration he assisted with before, which was incredibly difficult as the thing kept sucking his balls back into his own body. Eventually, he had no choice but to support the animal by jiggling him around on the table upright and keeping him alive at the same time, while his vet tried to yank them out. I notice the work experience girl in the room has gone very white.
