Blood Debt is the introduction to Straight's Touched series, and BOY OH BOY, is it jam packed.

We jump straight into the eyes of Cami, who is busy dealing with the tatters of her new world after the sudden death of her mother. Low and behold - mother has left behind a nugget of information to find Cami's long lost father, after considering that her death bed is of course the opportune time to drop this bombshell.

Cami decides to dive into this brave new world of meeting her father for the first time ever and his family. Suddenly she feels at home and had a strong, family dynamic around her - something obvious to the reader is what she sorely missed growing up with just her mother.

However, all is not as it seems dear reader and we're about to be plunged into a world of total what the heckery - with... Wait for it... CENTAURS.

Yep. Centaurs. I know, how cool is that!

Without revealing too much of the plot, we learn the highs and lows of Cami's new heritage and just how trapped into her own destiny she really is. Aside from the typical good looking character tropes and perfect new family life, the first book of the series is pretty enjoyable and easy to get lost into.

Like anything else, Blood Debt did have its pros and cons but I found the latter easy to ignore when properly enveloped into the story.

PROS

+ An organic lore rich story

+ I wasn't able to guess ahead at the plot

+ Likeable main characters

+ Enjoyable twists

+ Unputdownable. It's not really a word, but there we go. I found it challenging to put down and go to sleep.

+ Very niche subject matter. So much so that I've never read a book about centaurs before. Unless you count Firenze in Harry Potter 😜

CONS

+ Pace really sped up towards the end

+ Got a bit fed up with the mother and her 'messages' that didn't really go anywhere and Cami's constant tries to connect that didn't contribute to the plot.

+ Too many brothers with names that begin with me. I can only really differentiate between Beau and Brent - otherwise forget it!

+ They say to never judge a book by its cover but just going on the graphics alone, it wouldn't have made me try it..

+ I was under the impression we'd see a little more Josh or NFL football guy, but no.

4 out of 5 magical uni-... No, CENTAURS. 🦄🦄🦄🦄

About the author:

I LOVE Starbucks' White Chocolate Mocha and Mountain Dew, (but not together).

I have a lead foot so I set cruise control when I drive, even in 25 MPH zones.

I almost never win when I play Angry Birds, but have my 8 year old close, so he can clear the hard levels for me.

I grew up on a farm and am opposed to eating fresh chicken (not opposed to meat - just opposed to any meat that was alive a few hours before lunch).

I am a huge fan of the show, Big Bang Theory, on CBS.

I have a stray cat that I feed every night and morning but she's never let me get closer than within 3 feet of her - I keep thinking eventually I'll wear her down and she'll let me pet her.

I share my life with two fantastic sons, three rotten dogs and a husband that I adore.

I love hearing from readers!
